The Trump administration provided safe haven for anti-LGBT groups and individuals throughout the year, with a particular onslaught on transgender people in Anti-LGBT evangelical groups continue to enjoy unprecedented access to the White House and are intimately involved in forging public policy. Obama-era policies recognizing gender identity in schools and prisons were rolled back.

Attitudes on Same-Sex Marriage
Disagreements over the roles and rights of LGBTQ individuals in society are not enough for us to label an organization anti-LGBTQ: It is the intersection of beliefs with actions taken based on those beliefs that help us and others make that determination. While the name has changed, the mission--to promote the antiquated view that homosexuality is a mental disorder, and to promote the use of reparative therapy--remains the same. This is in spite of the fact that reparative therapy has been declared unethical and dangerous by all major mainstream mental health and medical professional associations.

These changing attitudes have meant that LGBT adults feel more accepted by society now than in the past. They have also given rise to a nearly universal sense of optimism about what lies ahead for this community. And significant shares of LGBT adults report having been treated unfairly because of their sexual orientation or gender identity—through experiences ranging from poor service in restaurants and hotels to threats and physical attacks. In the eyes of LGBT adults, greater social acceptance has come as a result of more Americans knowing someone who is lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender as well as the efforts of high-profile public figures.
